"Bee Yourself" Sensory Friendly Browsing

Children on the autism spectrum and children with special needs will enjoy this event starting with a calm, gentle hour of browsing in the library before the library opens. With their families, children can explore library books, play with sensory toys and manipulatives, and just have fun being themselves. Maybe they will even make a new friend! We ’ll have some sensory tools available too, like weighted lap pads and headphones.

May Speaker: Kea Johnston
Kea Johnston—Egyptologist; Kea obtained BAs in both Computer Science and Biology from Brown University in 2005, though she maintained an interest in Egyptology through her undergraduate studies. While at Brown, she was invited to go to Egypt as an epigrapher with the Brown/AUC expedition to the Abu Bakr Cemetery at Giza in 2005. Having been a software engineer for a decade.  Kea is currently a PhD student at University of California Berkeley in Egyptology and traveling down from the Bay area (just for you) to discuss the journey through the netherworld, in light of the tools the Egyptians hoped would help them to navigate it.

Everette Hoard the Commodore at the Queen Mary in Long Beach; Everette has been with the Queen Mary close to 40 years and possesses a rare appreciation and passion for her.  He will be discussing the art, artistry and architecture of this art deco treasure. You can find Everette on Facebook.
