Joshua Blevins Peck- Dead Cinema

Photography Exhibit, October 3-31, 2016

Reception October 7, 2016, 4 to 6 pm

The single screen movie theatre is disappearing from the cultural fabric of America. Fortunate theatres spared the wrecking ball are often ghostly shells and empty structures, a nostalgic relic of a bygone era when colorful neon marquees lit up towns and cities with electricity.

Dead Cinema by Joshua Blevins Peck is a collection of photographs that sheds new light on these forgotten architectural gems from across his home state of Oklahoma. Utilizing the warm tones of analogue film, the medium format images are vivid, direct, and bold, serving as a bittersweet reminder that progress isn’t always progress.
