Art Show- Vincent Lowry: California Landscapes

High definition pictures of California's coastlines, lakes, and mountains By Vincent Lowry are showcased in an aluminum medium during the month of August at the Palos Verdes Library District.  Vincent will also be giving a talk and presentation about his work on August 19th at 3 pm in the Peninsula Center Library Community Room.  A reception with light refreshments will follow the presentation.

Artist Bio:

Vincent Lowry is a professional photographer who has taken landscape and portrait pictures all over the United States. Vincent's love for photography started in Albuquerque, New Mexico (where he was born), and his favorite sites to shoot are coastlines, lakes, and mountains. Vincent lives in Southern California. The collection of original work by Fernando Del Rosario celebrates superheroes and extraordinary people.  As a boy Fernando found solace in the stories and characters of superheroes in comic books.  As he got older, he began to realize that ordinary people are superheroes too, making them extraordinary.  This exhibit honors both the superhero and the ordinary. Every one of the comic book pages in the art are from his collection as a kid.

Art Workshop: Make a Theater Book

Whether it was because her mother was a voracious reader, or that she named her daughter after a character in a book, artist Laurel Koss is a lifelong lover of books and the pictures they form in her imagination. This exhibition presents the happy interplay she feels between words and images in mixed media collages. Book are “containers for words” but can words be contained? A story or poem calls to you and flies from the page to stirs something inside and then never leaves you. 
Laurel’s work explores the communion between a writer, artist, and the work.

Laurel studied calligraphy in England and the practice of paper-making, bookbinding, and other art techniques in California. She teaches art to children and adults throughout Los Angeles at libraries, museums, schools, and hospitals.

Life Line Screening is pleased to offer a preventive health event.  Life Line Screening, a leading provider of community-based preventive health screenings, will host their affordable, non-invasive and painless health screenings on 8/29/2017.  Five screenings will be offered that scan for potential health problems related to: blocked arteries which is a leading cause of stroke; abdominal aortic aneurysms which can lead to a ruptured aorta; hardening of the arteries in the legs which is a strong predictor of heart disease; atrial fibrillation or irregular heart beat which is closely tied to stroke risk; and a bone density screening, for men and women, used to assess the risk of osteoporosis.
