Art Show- Brian Bernhard "Embracing the Weird"

Thursday, June 29, 2017
Peninsula Center Library
Foyer Exhibit Area
Brian A. Bernhard
Embracing the Weird

An art exhibition showcasing the creative flow of eccentric multi-media artist Brian A. Bernhard. Bernhard’s work is as much about process and discovery as it is about colors, design and interaction. His work is designed to be playful and inspire creative thought, however each piece is the documentation of a creative experience (often quite lengthy, lasting weeks, months or even years)…the art of pure flow…like transcendent improvisational jazz. Many of his works were seeded by interactions with fans via social media, often streaming live video of his creative process and flow while interacting with followers, fans and collaborators through live streaming platforms like Twitch, Periscope & Facebook Live.

After 25 years of exploring the art world, Brian has learned that he is obsessed with the creative process. His artistic expression has encompassed just about every media one can think of; from painting, drawing and photography to video, music and performance. Having produced hundreds of creative process documentaries and interviews, he has been fortunate enough to learn directly from some of the most amazing artistic visionaries in the world. He soaks up as much experiential life fuel as he can, then toss it all into his brain blending inspiration filter and process it into this thing we call art.

His current series of work is a journey into the heart of creative flow. He begins with a simple image, concept or idea; like a heart, a flower, or an eye, and then he digs in, drilling down as deep as the journey takes. Each painting, mural or drawing has its own life and story, taking many weeks, months or even years to complete.

He recently launched a lifestyle brand for weirdos, called "Embrace the Weird", designing an array of bold and exciting wearable art products based on his current creative flow. With his unique business model he is able to leverage social media, art and entrepreneurial concepts in order to create an independent sustainable art business.

Brian will be giving a talk on June 16 at 3 pm on “The Rise of the ARTrepreneure” (The end of the starving artist myth)"

Art plus entrepreneur equals the “ARTrepreneure”, its a simple equation that way too many aspiring artists tend to overlook. Brian A. Bernhard’s talk will explore his personal creative journey to becoming an “ARTrepreneure”, as well as, provide some creative social media “best practice” tips for artist, example art business concepts and other alternative means for building a sustainable art business.

Art Show Micheal Cinnamond & David Heath

Friday, June 30, 2017
Malaga Cove Library
Gallery Exhibit Area

The PV Library is pleased to present a new photography and painting exhibit at the Malaga Cove Art Gallery. “The Colors of Burma from Photo to Oil” will run from June 1 - June 30 with an artist’s reception on June 10 from 2 to 5 PM.

The art show is a collaboration between internationally known artists David Heath and Michael Cinnamond. David’s photography series titled Burma: An Enchanted Spirit will be on display along with painted versions of the same photos by Michael. David and Michael will discuss how they worked on this project together on June 1 at 4 PM.

As a world adventure photographer, David Heath fell in love with the mystical world of Burma (Myanmar).  He spent over 5 years exploring the land and meeting the people, including the new leader of Burma, Aung San Suu Kyi.  David’s travels in Burma have culminated in his photographic journal, a book called “Burma: An Enchanted Spirit.”

David Heath treats the viewfinder of his camera like a canvas.  He has learned how to frame what he sees in landscapes, seascapes, architecture, and people as if he were drawing them.

It is this unique talent as an artist, more than a photographer, which inspired the idea to begin collaboration with fine artist and painter, Michael Cinnamond.  Both David and Michael were excited about creating a show, which would allow the viewers to feel and see the interpretation of David’s photographs, especially after Aung San Suu Kyi saw one of Michael’s paintings and commented, “He sees the colors of Burma”.

Michael’s choice of colors and composition awaken the artist in all who view his work.  Each oil painting or collage represents what he feels from David’s capture of the moment, and Michael’s previous travels to Burma in the 1970’s.  There is a story being told, which represents the beauty of Burma.

This art exhibit is part of the Art in Our Library program at the Palos Verdes Library District. The library is committed to providing a dynamic and ever responsive art exhibitions and event programs to the Palos Verdes community.  Rotating exhibitions can be enjoyed at all our libraries.  The Art in Our Library program gives our community free access to the visual arts, while promoting local artists and creative community groups.

Art Show- Jessie McGrath

Monday, July 31, 2017
Peninsula Center Library
Foyer Exhibit Area
Starting off with merely a dream and a Lisa Frank kit, Jessie McGrath has been active in the arts from an early age. In her work, she strives towards the goal of enjoying the process over aiming for a finished product. This process involves lazy  sketches, layers of ink, paint, Zelda breaks, and foreign street food YouTube videos, all while listening to the same K-pop song on repeat.

In her spare time, Jessie volunteers with non-profits, youth-based events, theater, costume and makeup design, murals, graphic design, photography, and manages and curates for the Peoples Art of Portland and Killer Pink galleries.

Jessie will be hosting an art workshop on July 1st at 2 pm where participants can create their own art pieces using Jessie's mixed media techniques.  A reception with light refreshments will follow.  Supplies will be provided, no registration needed.
