Exhibit Description

Acrylic collage and mixed media create heightened depth, color, texture and a magical vitality that connects deeply with the viewer. My landscapes, seascapes and portraits evolve from a surprising collection of unexpected elements: cut-outs from magazines and newspapers, candy wrappers, tree bark, packing materials, coffee grounds, all manner of paper, old jewelry, crushed beads, sequins, lace, heat-treated Tyvek and much more. I bind them with paints, mediums and glazes and embellish them with charcoal or pastels, a glint of something metallic or perhaps a feather.

My goal in exploring the possibilities of these enchanting techniques is to create a work of art that tells a story. The beauty of nature, including that of my native San Pedro, world cultures and directing Zhena Folk Chorus inspired this show.

“Collage is like a hall of mirrors, Every direction you look you see something different and visually stimulating.”       -    Nita Leland
